WEN HUGHES was born at St. Marys, Tasmania. He was raised on a small East Coast farm and developed a great love of nature and people. Owen began photography as a hobby, but faced by the rural depression of the 1960s he gambled on a full-time career. He established a business in Launceston in 1969 but was forced to photograph his subjects in natural surroundings because he could not afford a studio. Owen now believes this was a blessing in disguise because he developed an innovative style. It is not surprising that he has become well known for his landscapes which have earned national acclaim. Owen Hughes is clearly Tasmania's premier photographer. His accolades include:

Tasmania's first Master of Photography and Australia's seventh.
Fellow of the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers.
Australian Landscape Photographer of the year.
Australian Portrait Photographer of the year.
Australian Wedding Photographer of the year.

Although Owen is a nationally acclaimed photographer who has captured the beauty of Australia in all its moods, we have chosen to represent his artistic output by presenting images of his beautiful and unique home state, Tasmania. This is offered in two broad areas:
